  • Sort: Elimination of unnecessary materials
  • Straighten: Organize all materials in an optimized manner
  • Sanitize: Keep area and materials clean and uncluttered
  • Standardize: Spread new procedures and standards across all areas
  • Sustain: Implement systems to maintain new standard

 

Muda  Waste or non-value added activity

An activity is deemed non-value added if:

  • It does not change the fit, form or content of desired end result
  • A customer is not willing to pay for the activity
  • Activity is not completed correctly the first time

 

Poka Yoke Refers to a mistake proofing system developed to eliminate defects

 

Kaizen Literally translated means “anytime good” and refers to a philosophy continuous improvement event
