Wendel Swan joined The CDI Group in March
of 2007 as a Partner after having spent 38 years advising and counseling
businesses owners in a variety of capacities.
Upon graduating from law school in 1968, Wendel began his professional
career in the tax department of Lybrand, Ross Bros & Montgomery
(now PriceWaterhouse Coopers) where he worked on both individual
and corporate matters and gained valuable insight into auditing and
accounting practices.
From 1970 to 1986 he practiced law in a 15-member law firm in Illinois
where he specialized in corporate law, estate planning and taxation.
His clients included senior management of Deere & Company and
several of the heirs of John Deere. He represented diverse corporations
and business owners on touching virtually every aspect of business
ownership and management. In particular, he did extensive work on
shareholder and partnership purchase and cross-agreements and business
transfers.
In 1986, Wendel moved to Alexandria, Virginia to head the business
brokerage division (with 16 agents and two offices) of a regional
real estate firm (now Weichert Realtors). There he represented broad
categories of business sellers, offering full range of services from
evaluation through settlement, including preparation of all requisite
documents such as purchase and sale agreements, confidentiality agreements,
due diligence documents, transfers, covenants, notes, security agreements
and accountings.
In 1995, he moved to the Commercial Real Estate department of McEnearney
Realty, working on both business transfers and then almost exclusively
on commercial real estate sales and leasing. Eventually he chose
to return to mergers and acquisitions and business transfers, which
he did in 2006.
Wendel joined The CDI Group to concentrate on providing Mergers
and Acquisitions services to corporate accounts and individual business
owners. His extensive experience and expertise in handling sell-side
and buy-side transactions, communications skills and his practical
understanding of corporate problems and the solutions make him an
ideal fit for The CDI Group.
Education:
- B. A., Knox College

Wendel’s personal activities and interest are eclectic. He

Museum in Washington DC. He has an abiding interest in the
arts, but is also an enthusiastic jogger and cyclist.
